To restore an old piece of furniture

Is there anything more pleasant than to restore an old piece of furniture? I love to buy old (not antique, just pretty old) furniture and make it as new again with help from a few hours work! Small things like a brush and some paint can make old furniture like new again, and that’s what I love about this hobby!

I bought the bureau above a couple of weeks ago. It didn’t look great as you can see, even though it wasn’t destroyed in any way. I’m sure it would have looked good as it was in an old cottage or something, but I love white furniture, so I decided to paint it white.

It took me about 3 days to finish the whole thing. I started to cover the floor with plastic covers, covering the metal details with tape and that kind of things, to save me problems later on. I then started to paint it with an antique white shade.

painting processI painted it three times to make sure the paint fully covered every part of it. On the photo above it’s been painted two times, and I guess some people would have thought that was enough, but I can assure you that it’s worth the effort to paint it with one more layer, since the result gets so much better!

After I’d finished the painting process I left it to dry, which only took a few hours actually. When that was done I left for the flower store, purchased a few cute flowers, a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers and a beautiful lamp. The result can be seen below. It wasn’t all easy to paint this one, but I’m really happy with the result actually.
